The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at Northwest Missouri State University is home to Criminology, Emergency & Disaster Management, Geography and Geographic Information Systems, History, Philosophy, and Political Science. We are also home to Pre-Law, a pre-professional program designed to prepare students for law school.

We offer 12 majors, 12 minors, and certification in middle and secondary school social sciences. We also offer graduate programs in Geographic Information Science (M.S. and certificate) and Teaching History (M.S.Ed.).

The department has 24 faculty who are highly engaged in the teaching and the scholarship of their respective fields.
